Building the Allied Health Workforce for an NDIS future

The 'Building the Allied Health Workforce for an NDIS future' has been designed by Flinders University for university staff, service providers NDIS participants and allied health students and allows participants to learn about the challenges and opportunities involved with allied health student placements in the new fee-for-service model for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This MOOC is freely available, can be started at any time and allows a flexible learning approach

The NHET-Sim Program

 The National Health Education and Training in Simulation (NHET-Sim) Program is a national training program offered free of charge and funded by the Department of Health. The NHET-Sim Program uses simulation as the basis to explore clinical education and participants can complete the program purely online or a combination of online and in person workshops. After completing the two core modules, participants can choose as many elective modules as they like from a range of eleven online modules. The e-learning component of the NHET-Sim program takes approximately 12 hours to complete. The workshop component takes approximately 2 days.

 The following organizations have endorsed the NHET-Sim program for CPD points:

         - The Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM)

        - The Australian College of Nursing (ACN)

        - The College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM)

        - The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA)

          have a range of educational activities that Fellows are able to claim

          credits for in relation to Continuing Professional Development.

        - The Australian Primary Healthcare Nursing Association (APNA)

        - The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM)

        - The Australian College of Midwives (ACM)

Workshops are scheduled across Australia in metropolitan and rural locations.

National Clinical Supervision Skills Initiative

Overview

 Health Workforce Australia's (HWA) Clinical Supervision Support Program (CSSP) has developed a National Clinical Supervision Skills Initiative (Skills Initiative). The Skills Initiative will deliver a range of interprofessional education and training opportunities for new and existing clinical supervisors across Australia, facilitated through the Integrated Regional Clinical Training Networks (IRCTNs) in each state and territory.

The National Clinical Supervision Competency Resource – Validation Edition (the Resource) provides the foundation for the Skills Initiative by enabling the development of a consistent and transparent approach to the provision of quality interprofessional clinical supervision education and training programs.

The Resource provides three pathways for the education and training of clinical supervisors; Foundational, Intermediate and Advanced, and describes competency domains and elements, representing activity common to the Australian clinical supervision workforce.

To support the Skills Initiative, HWA established a Multi-Use List (MUL) of Education and Training Providers (Providers) with proven experience in the delivery of interprofessional clinical supervision education and training who can demonstrate alignment to the Resource.

To be considered for the MUL Providers were required to demonstrate:

• A proven ability and track record in the provision of interprofessional clinical supervision education and training across multiple settings and/or locations and/or jurisdictions.
• Alignment to Foundational and/or Intermediate pathways as outlined in the National Clinical Supervision Competency Resource – Validation Edition.
• Alignment to one or more of the Foundational and/or Intermediate domains and competency elements outlined in the National Clinical Supervision Competency Resource – Validation Edition.
• A proven ability to contextualise interprofessional clinical supervision education and training to ensure it is appropriate to the location/setting in which it is being delivered and for the skills/experience of the participants attending.

Education and training opportunities in clinical supervision may be offered in a variety of formats, including (but not limited to):

• Face-to-face workshops, seminars, short courses and/or extended courses.
• On-line workshops, seminars, short courses and/or extended courses.
• Written and/or on-line resources.
• Education and/or training in a simulated learning environment (SLE).
• E-learning modules.
• Train the trainer.
• Any combination of the above.
