Regulation, Ethics and Standards
In Australia, the social work profession is self- regulated with governance from the Australian Association of Social Workers.
The AASW has developed a Code of Ethics for the profession. Practice Standards for the profession in a range of practice areas have or are being developed. All social workers (including students) are bound by these standards and ethical codes.
Education and Training
AASW oversees the accreditation of degrees in Social Work. The main document that outlines requirements of education including field education and accreditation is the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards. The AASW’s Fieldwork resources can assist Social Workers considering student placements in understanding core aspect of field education and offers online training and resources.
