Becoming familiar with the organisational structure prior to placement can be valuable to a student so they understand where their role fits.  Most workplaces require students to complete formal training in or at least be aware of organisational policy and procedures to ensure their safety whilst on placement.  Mandatory workplace training may include:

  • Occupational Health and Safety training
  • Patient Safety
  • Infection Control
  • Workplace bullying
  • Child Safety

Please be aware of training requirements and if the student can complete prior to commencement of placement or during orientation program, send them relevant details prior to placement commencement.

Collaboration with other Clinical Educators from within your profession and/or other professions across organisations is also possible and can reduce the individual educator’s workload.

Consider what the student might need to know about the organisation you work in.  How large is the organisation?  What are some of the workplace cultures?  Who are the key stakeholders groups?
