Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives

  • To gain an understanding of the Mental Health Act 2000 including its practical implications

When working with clients in the mental health setting, you are working with a potentially vulnerable person.  They may or may not be able to make their own decisions about healthcare, finances or daily activities.  It is important that you have an awareness of the laws that govern health professionals practicing under these conditions.  The Mental Health Act 2016  has been drafted to reflect contemporary clinical practice, international, national and state policy directions and broad community expectations.

Under the Mental Health Act 2016 decision-making processes have been designed to ensure transparency and accountability (Queensland Government, 2016)

For the full Act, follow this link to access the Mental Health Act 2016.
